Somewhere between the first time Buffy died and the second, the show stopped being just a fun, clever, silly fantasy and became really dark, scarily good, and the kinda show that makes you want to sob hysterically damn near every episode. 

Seriously. Joyce! Anya and Xander! Tara! Willow with the flip out! Spike with the soul! OH GOD MY HEART!
